Barnes was a great player at Providence college in the early 70's. He
was always getting into one scrape or another, nothing that was really
reported until his senior year in college when he got into an
altercation with a player at practice I think his name was Larry
Kurvitis or something like that. Anyway after practice he followed him
out to the parking lot and got a tire iron out of his car good old "bad
news" whacked him across the head splitting the guys head open. If I
recall that is how he got that nickname(also known as "movin"). Somehow
or another he got out of the problem and went on to the pros. After
college he opted to go to the ABA 1974-75 with St Louis and lasted with
them about a season, it may have been less. He was absolutely awesome
averaging 25 PPG and 15 RPG with them. He used to miss practices, team
flights and would show up for games after they started. The team and the
league put up with this for as long as they could and either suspended
him or released him. After some time he ended up on the C's, I think his
coach was Heinsohn in 1977,he may have been signed after Cowens took his
vacation, I am a little bit vague on this. He pulled off the same crap
with the C's and got suspended for a bunch of games. I can tell you this
for sure, I was in attendance at a game during his suspension and he
shows up at the game, walks directly behind the C's bench wearing a fur
coat a derby hat and walking with a cane and with him are 3 bimbos
probably hookers, just to taunt the coach. within the next few days , he
was released and I don"t think he ever played in the pros again. He was
really an unbelievable player born with great talent, great body,
unfortunately he was born without a brain and was as I say morally
bereft of any character.
I don't know much else, but maybe others on the list would have
additional info for you.
Regards,
Hart
