A little economics. The economy will only stay hot for awhile, already
there are signs of it eroding some. Same for any business, things have to
be re-adjusted from time to time or face economic uncertainty. The players
had it good in sports for quite awhile. It may be time to adjust somethings
like the Bird deal, like rookie contracts, like veteran contracts. The
insanity of it all is when a player is up for contract up and leaves for
better dough. The owner, team and fans are left holding the bag. The team
chemistry gets upset. All this moving around from team to team causes
mediocrity.

If a kid growing up wants to play pro ball and he works hard enough, he
will succeed. And get paid handsomely at that. But eventually you can only
tell the owner you want more, so much. The owners are saying it now, enough
is enough!! The Bird deal is the real big problem and it will have to be
dealt with.

Actually the front office should be getting all the money. Stop and think.
They are the ones buying and getting the machinery to work as a cohesive
unit. An individual player in basketball is worth nothing, but put 5
players together and you can dress a team. Most players keep their bags
packed, ready for a move. And move they do. It's laughable, most times your
only getting someone else's junk, but the new look inspires the fans for
another season, even though it will be another dud.

So far the Celts are building a strong team, even though it's only been one
season, the signs are there. A few key positions filled and the Celts make
sports news again, and not just in the Globe. So we don't need a postponed
season.
