Re: LaL Generation Gaffe

I agree. Also, Rogers whoop just after the very first lines of
"people try to put us down" is deleted and spliced with a lower key
whoop. And, hey, there are plenty of other splices going on. Just sit
down side by side, and I find them in plenty of spots. Now, I don't have
the original unedited live tape, but I would suspect some other editing
jobs. I think Townshend says fuck instead of fornicate when intro-ing
A Quick One..., and they cut it off at the f and had him say fornicate,
which could easily have been accomplished. Also, the removal of the
backwards guitar splice in Magic Bus with a "corrected" forward G-D run
seems too clean w.r.t. the rest of the recording, and hence I think it is
another modern day injection.... And so on and so on. Still a much much
much better package than the original which was still the greatest live
album in history (with the exception of a few Zeppelin boots from the
very early days (meant to be pronounced with a strong cockney accent)), I'm
just pointing out a few "differences".

The best bass solo of My Generation, however, has to be the one off of the
Smothers brothers show. A friend of mine's dad was a cameraman for that show.
(Guess that means I'm famous). Just hang onto that one. How did they get
the bass to sound so good on that? I STILL haven't heard cleaner bass to this
day! Probably played direct into the board. But the mystery on that one
deepens, as the song was clearly recorded prior to the videotaping of their
performance. And the Townshend chords on that one are not to be believed.
Anyone wanna have a go at charting the chords on the Smothers Brothers perf.
of My Generation? We'll compare notes when you're done. An amazing piece
of musical history, that one. JW
