I have these tires on my '98 tdi (which is for sale), size 205/50-16 and
they are surprisingly good!  I got caught out in the rain, yesterday,
and the RE730 were better than the previous tire, an AVS Intermediate.
Dry handling of the RE730 is almost as good as the AVSI.  Inexpensive,
too.  I have Neuspeed Sport Springs and there was some rubbing, but
rolling under the fender lip with a wooden baseball bat took care of
that.
