VR6's have always had cartridge filters, never spin-ons.  They made a slight
design change to them mid-way in '96, which is why there are two different
VR6 filters.

The socket for the housing is 36mm, the housing drain plug is a 6mm allen
(IIRC), and the oil pan drain plug is a 19mm socket.

Yes, I agree that it's easier to change the oil on a VR6 than a 4cyl.  If
you use, on the 4cyl, a cap-style wrench instead of a band-style wrench, its
much easier, but still not as easy as a VR6.
