Re: Headers for the VR6?

As far as the headers are concerned, european car did an article/test of the
Brospeed headers on an SLC not too long ago and they said there was a gain
of 9 hp on the top end and no loss of power anywhere; the power gain will
depend on what other mods you have done to your engine, they recommended
headers as the last step on a serious engine modification program "to get
that last little bit" From what I have read, and I have read a lot, Brospeed
would be the way to go. Since you asked, my 1/4 mile times are good but
they will be better. The best I have done in my basically stock 96 Jetta
GLX is a 15.62 at 87.9mph. That was with only a K&N drop-in, modified
airbox and the passenger side headlight removed. That was also before I
exploded the differential doing burnouts like a DUMB-ASS! I have since put
a Corrado tranny in the Jetta which has a slightly lower final drive ratio,
3.39 in the Jetta compared to 3.65 in the Corrado to be exact and it seems
to be a little quicker. I ran it at the track the day after I got it back
(no burnouts this time) and ran a 15.6 at 88.5 but had a TERRIBLE reaction
time, spun the tires when I finally did start, and was not speed-shifting
because I wanted to "baby" it the first time. That was the only time I have
run since I got it back from the tranny shop. Anyway, just wanted to answer
your questions the best I could, sorry for the length
