RE: speed limiter

I know in my 4-cyl when I bounce off the rev limiter you hit it like a brick
wall...you're acceleration stops, you slow down (rpms drop about 500 rpm),
then it picks up again till you hit it and it all repeats.

When I was at SIR (soapbox on - a safe and legal place to do such speeds -
soapbox off), I was running the front straight at about 120MPH (indicated)
before the turn-in to turn 1. In 4th, I think that was around 6k RPM. The
instructor then had me go into 5th on the straight after that, so that I
didn't bounce off of the rev limiter as I accelerated through turn 1. I
think 120 MPH was about 5000 RPM in 5th.

BTW, the front straight was the place to take several deep breaths, loosen
your grip on the steering wheel, dry your hands, check your gauges, and
review a couple of items with the instructor -- all while accelerating up to
120+. The instructor and I could talk comfortably (with helmets on) through
the front straight. On the track at over 100 MPH it felt like I was driving
down a good section of I-405 at 70 MPH.

For those who have bounced off of the speed limiter, what is it like? Does
it cut out and stutter a little like the rev-limiter, or does it just hold
the speed?

Considering that ODBII is supposed to be fully programmable via the
diagnostic port, anyone want to consider the likelyhood that I can get a
dealer to raise the limiter? I really would rather not bounce off of it in a
tight situation that requires continued acceleration (like turn 1 at SIR).

OK list...I've got to ask:

So I'm flyin' at 125, can't remember what the tach read since my tunnel
vision
was pretty narrow at night. Coming up Hwy 101N. around Whipple, near the
CHP
station. Not too smart, but what was I to do with a VTEC Integra in the #2
lane. Nice little spin we're having, when I remember the list saying the
fuel
kicks out at 130, for us non-G-chip suffering mortals. Even still, the Revs
MUST have been in excess of 6K?

This CAN'T be good..regardless of what y'all say. I've nervous about over
reving my VR6, to the point where 5K is about it. In 1st, 2nd, and 3rd; 5K
is
about all it takes to easily play with other folks.

Anyway, your thoughts on what is best for performance, with respect to
engine
life tolerance, is appreciated.
