You would only be taxed on $13,000.  When I bought my GTI, the dealership gave me
payoff on my Jetta, which was $7100.  I didn't pay taxes in that amount, but still
financed the whole value of the GTI, $20,000.  I only paid takes on $12,900  BTW,
I live in Texas.
