RE: coolant

The other factor is that with the newest VW RED coolant (which _is_ designed
to last the life of the engine (according to TurboTim at NewDimensions) is
that it cannot be mixed with other coolants without possible damage to your
engine. This includes little pockets of coolant that may be leftover after a
normal flush and fill. See
http://www.panix.com/~aqn/GTI_VR6/gti_vr6/library/engine/blue_or_red_coolant
.html and
http://www.panix.com/~aqn/GTI_VR6/gti_vr6/library/engine/TECH_Coolant_changi
ng.html for further discussion. If you have the blue (or brown
contaminated), it appears that you should switch to the red for the best
life of your very expensive VR6 head, and that switch should be done at the
dealer/stealer (depending on how your local one is).

I'm not so sure. "Never" is a really, really long time :)

Even though today's coolants do last a while, I'd still do a flush every 30k
or so if I were you.

I think what VW means by "never" is "never within the warranty period".
