Actually, it could be that he's not full of crap.  Sometimes the
cars early in a model year's production run don't have all of the
changes that will appear for that model year.  I have a 97 GLX 
without the Bose system.  My wife had a 95 GL with 4 wheel disc
brakes (a remnant of the 94 model year we were told).  If your car
is an early 98 perhaps it really doesn't have the remote entry.
