Thhe same thing happened to me just two weeks ago.  I took my car to the
dealer and they said that it is a chronic problem for this double sided tape
to come unglued.  VW will only allow the dealer to replace the moulding
(cheap $22 part) instead of regluing it.  They actually recommended a nearby
body shop that uses a silicone based moulding adhesive to repair the car.
According to my VW dealer, this holds better than the tape.  So I ripped off
the moulding - cleaned it up and used some Automotive Goop to stick her back
on, and it seems to be holding tight - even in the middle of a God awful
Canadian winter.
