Re: rear bumber paint.



My theory is they won't be removed, because that is the color of the
plastic underneath.  If you have ever seen this on another car (think
ford), where the bumper paint has worn or flaked off, that thing is
yellow under there.  I have seen this on many mid-80's mustangs.

I think that either the paint is wearing thin, or at the factory, when
it was painted, the orange peel pulled away from the plastic and left
some bumper exposed.  not uncommon as it is harder to get the paint to
stick to the slick plastic than the pourous metal.  think of the paint
as a blanket and when it streches it pulls holes in at as it is drying. 
it is obvious that the curing process isn't carefully monitored on the
VW line, as my 99 has the same deal on its bumper.  negligible, but an
experienced bodyman wouldn't let it slide.
