RE: PIAA lamps

I've had my PIAA SuperWhite bulbs for about 3 months now. I like them, kinda
sort-of.

They are noticeably brighter/Whiter than the stock bulbs, but they are still
a long way away from HID. I was hoping for more when I first put them in the
GLX.
I first saw them on my friend's honda...They are a hole lot brighter on his
little rice-fueled toy. Needless to say I was a little disappointed at the
results when comparing to the "burner"

I took them and put them in my cousin's Infinity....Guess what..??? They
shine brighter than the GLX....BUMMER. (But not as bright as the
honda..FYI: honda uses a H4, higher wattage bulb than the VW and Infinity).

My opinion... I like them because they are noticeably Whiter and apparently
Brighter than stock. I get flashed by people thinking I have on my brights a
little more often than with the stock tubes.

Is this little benefit worth the extra cash....? The Jury is still out on
whether I would get another set when these burn out...

Also, just FYI when they talk about 3800k temperature of light it is a
measurement of the intensity of light Not Heat..

Here's where I got mine:
http://www.sportscar-parts.com/bulbs.html#PIAA
(The picture you see of the road comparing the standard and PIAA Platinum
are about accurate. Notice that it's not a hell of a lot brighter but
obviously Whiter
-But does Whiter mean Brighter...? I don't know)
(The picture of the bulbs(Reg. Halogen vs SuperWhite)..is a load of &*^#.
-NOT accurate at all)

Subject: PIAA lamps

I am wondering if anyone has purchased/used the PIAA lamps that are for
sale at a lot of specialty car shops..they run about $100 for a pair, and
claim they are the closest thing to HID (high intensity discharge) that you
can get..claim 3800k light temperature while hid is around 4200 or so.
Anyways, they use current than the stock bulbs, so heat should not be a
problem..and they are both DOT and SAE approved for use on the road. My
questions are 1) are they that much brigher than regular halogen or xenon
bulbs you can buy for $10 a bulb, 2) are they very durable, or will they
burn/blow out in a few weeks? Any experiences with these?
