Yes, it is true.

The VR6 Jetta's do have better suspensions.
With the A3's the GLX's suspension consisted of
better springs, shocks, and larger swaybars than
it's 4 cyl counterpart.
You can look for the same treatment in the new 
Jetta GLX (as soon as it's available)
I'm not too sure about the new GLS VR6, but 
since the engine is more powerful, its natural
for the manufacturer to employ these upgrades.
