Re: Dumb Question but easy

Brake pad wear sensor light. I'm 99% sure of it (my manual is downstairs
and I'm lazy). It means that your brake pads are about 30% away from
being useless. or thereabouts. Order some new pads soon, get 'em on the
car soon, etc. The car should still be driveable and 99% safe, but you
now know that that time is coming soon.
I at first thought that that little icon was a airbag-has-problems
warning light ... but it can't be since there is a seperate airbag light
on our '95 Jettas - it's on the lefthand side of the dash, beyond even
the headlight switch, next to the ABS light. If something were wrong with
either of those (the ABS system - not the brake pads themselves), that
light would come on during normal car use. I'm being really babbly,
aren't I? Ugh. Just woke up.
Anyhow, yeah, get your brake pads checked ASAP. No BIG worry. You
still probably have another two or three or four weeks' of normal use out
of the current pads before you start using the calipers as pads (eek!),
but now is the time for order new ones and schedule an appointment with
the car's doctor to have 'em installed (discs machined and so forth).
   Hope that helps.
