Bryan, I agree with you on loosing a job. I am a Master VW/Audi technician
working in a VW/Audi/Porsche dealership. I work flat rate. Thank heavens I
have a 35 hour guaranty. VW/Audi warranty reimbursement is very cheap.
The GTI engine I replaced the warranty time was 9 hours. That means engine
pulled out stripped down parts installed on replacement engine and back in
the car. I had 43 hours in the complete job which also included partial
disassembly to find the source of the engine tap. I had so many problems
with swapping over the engine because VW is now using a VR6 that is the
same as in the new Eurovan. I was able to get the factory to cover 35
hours. If I had my own way I would chase all the major repair work away.
Because we have to support a 10/100,000 warranty we are constantly getting
major repair work even though the cars are not service by VW dealers anymore.
