while we're sharing "ding" stories, I had a major mishap only 2 days after buying my Jetta.  I was driving down a street, and this guy in a Cavalier came out of a parking lot without looking at the traffic.  He demolished my whole right side, front to back.  The Jetta only had 125 Km on it!  Fortunately the dealer took it back along with the insurance money and gave me a brand new car identical to the previous one.
