I feel your pain my friend.  I have a 95 jetta GLX now, but I had a 1990
Passat GL with nothing but trouble.  It was a gorgeous car, but i had one
thing after another go wrong with it.  I had to have the transmission replaced
(which was bad) then the trany rebuilt, right after that i spun a bearing and
had to have the lower half of the engine rebuilt, water pump, idler pulley and
soooo many other things went wrong.  After i got all the before mentioned
things fixed, the damn heater core blew up inside the car on me.  I was so fed
up with that car.  I ended up selling it and bought a Jetta and haven't had a
problem since.
