Hmmm. My clutch return spring actually 'fell out' according to my VW
mechanic. It lost nearly all its resistance and had a clunky feel to it,
but shifting was still normal. He said this was fairly common and VW had
developed a retaining bracket to prevent it from 'falling out'.
Whatever. All I know is that it's back to normal.

Well, my first 97glx was repurchased by VW (thanks to the BBB) due in
large part to the car going forward when in the reverse position. I've
heard "It's just a simple linkage adjustment...". Well, evidently it's
not so simple cause they couldn't fix it and then VWs position was that
it's 'normal'. The 02A sucks dong; the BBB kicks butt.
