Joel,

yes, that is the only way you can do it at this time.  Crutchfield or
any other company does not at this time have a adapter which will work
on the '97 or '98 Jetta GLX's.  What's great with the P.I.E. adapter is
that it connects onto the factory pre-wired DIN and audio plugs in the
left side of the trunk.  Lastly, this is NOT a FM Modulated setup.
