Dave-

I don't know about you, but the problem seems to happen most often when I am
in a hurry and put the car in reverse quickly.  The first few times it
happened I actually thought that I had screwed up and just not gotten it
into reverse.  The third time, I checked carefully and found that the
shifter WAS in the reverse slot, but the car was definitely in first gear.

Man am I glad to hear someone else is having this problem! My 97 GLX goes
in this Tuesday for the third time for it. The service guys can never
duplicate the problem and I think that they think I am a moron and don't
know how to put the car in reverse...
