Questions from a new '98 Jetta GT owner:
Sorry for the newbie intrusion, but I picked up a black GT last week
with 11 miles on the odometer(Black, auto, sunroof) and I have several
questions:
1. OK, I have one end of the CD changer cable in the trunk area, near
the left rear fender. The connector is black with accomodations for 12
pins, although only 9 of them are wired. The connector at the end of
the cable is about 1.5 inches long and .5 inches high. I've been told
that the Clarion CD changer cables are standard DIN cables, so am I
correct in assuming that my Jetta has been wired for a Panasonic CD
changer?
2. How do I remove the factory radio for inspection? The factory deck
in my GT does not come with the 4 holes that require the use of the
U-shaped tools. Instead, they have two narrow slits on the front panel.
Mind you this one does not say "Premium audio." It has a rotary volume
control on the upper left corner and a power button on the lower left
corner. Also, is it normal for the cassette door to be stuck in the
open position all the time?
3. Last but not least, I attempted to perform the airbox mods from the
archives last night. I removed the air silence snorkel from the top
portion of the airbox(Airbox mod #2), but where exactly is this "bulged
wire metal screen" that I'm supposed to remove(Airbox mod #1)? Is it
supposed to be underneath the air filter element when the top portion is
removed? As far as I can tell, it is missing in my 98 GT. Is it
possible that VW did away with the metal screen for '98?
As always, thanks in advance
