16" vs 17" BBS wheels

im getting closer to my wheel purchase... thanks to my income tax refund :)
i've got my eyes on the BBS RXs. i need help deciding between the 16"
and the 17". the seventeens will LOOK better, i think- but am concerned
with problems concerning rubbing+ride height as well as pothole damage.
(austin isn't that bad)

what is the performace difference from going from stock 15" to BBS seventeen
inch versus going from stock 15" to BBS sixteen inch? my goal is to improve
handling/cornering FIRST and looks SECOND (yes wally its a close second)
also to be considered is my future plans for lowering the ride height. not
slammed, mind you (sorry wally) i was thinking of blisten sports and neuspeed
springs... how does the 16" vs 17" decision play here?

forgive my ignorance... but i know NOTHING about offset and tire sizes and
related topics. time to start reading the faqs i guess... question- my goal should
be to keep the same diameter (wheel+tire combined) as the stock setup so
it won't affect the speedometer reading, right? well how the hell does changing
the wheel size affect anything besides looks then?

btw- although price is playing NO part of this decision... the sixteens are $355
and the seventeens are $425 list each. (hopefully i can get these prices down)
not including freight or tax...
freight... i can avoid that by driving to houston if i buy them there and throwing
them in that HUGE trunk of mine! kewl.
