Shopping for a Jetta GLX

     Hi, I'm new to the list and I'm in the market for a 95-97 Jetta GLX.  
     
     I have owned 13 VWs and currently own an '88 Jetta GLI 16V.  I do all 
     my own work so I know about many of the typical VW common weak areas 
     (CV joints, heater cores, running hot, electrical problems, etc.)
     
     My questions are:  What problems are common to GLXs?  Are there any 
     unusual or expensive items that tend to fail?  I would also like to 
     know how hard typical maintenance items like alternator and water pump 
     replacement are.  Are there any maintenance items that are a problem 
     to take care of?
     
     Also, if I buy a car from a private owner, will the 10yr/100K transfer 
     to me?  From what I can tell, a dealer car only comes with the 
     standard used car warranty.   
     
     Any input on any of these topics would be appreciated.
