DOT-4 Nastiness / Stelathbox Wanted

Brake question(s)...My car turns 2 years old this month, and that means a
"brake fluid replacement regardless of mileage" according to the Bentley
manual.  I flushed the system the same way I've always flushed my bug (top
off reservoir, bleed the longest line first, have a pal pump the pedal,
etc.), and I noticed the following....

The *fresh* brake fluid that I poured into the reservoir was clear with a
slight yellow tinge to it.  The *used* fluid that I got from the lines when
I was done resembled a nice thick brown Guiness.  Does VW factory fill the
brake system with a dark colored DOT-4?

My second brake question is...my car has the Teves 20 GI ABS/EDL, and I did
NOT use the "V.A.G. 1551 scan tool" to purge trapped air out of the
hydraulic valve in the ABS unit.  Am I going to have any trouble / has
anybody had experience with this?  I didn't find anything in the archives,
please advise!

Also, does anyone have a Jetta stealthbox that they want to sell, or know
of a competitively-priced car audio gear place that has them mail order?
