Re: Performance chip

There are actually two things I would recommend. First replace your stock
air filter with a K&N filter (available through New Dimensions). There are
also several ways to modify your airbox so it "breathes better". Your other
choice is a device called a "p-flow" (also available through New
Dimensions) which actually replaces the whole airbox with a cone type
filter for maximum air intake. This mod will make your engine sound a bit
louder when you really get on the gas though. These mods could add roughly
2-6 additional horse power. (There is a lot of debate concerning this that
would be very lengthy...)

On the chip side, there are several to choose from. New Dimensions sells
Neuspeed's chip which has worked quite successfully for a lot of people.
Autotech sells a chip, as well as Auto Authority. I can't say much about
autotech's chip and have heard about pinging problems with the Auto
Authority (AT) chip. Whatever chip you use will require Premium Unleaded
(92-93 octane or higher...). The chip upgrade will remap the torque and
horsepower curves of the motor giving a more usable power band. It will
also remove (or bump up depending on the chip) the rev limiter. Overall you
can expect anywhere from 2-6hp gain but what your really getting is better
driveability.

Good Luck.
