strut and sturt bushing failure.

Have any of you had strut bushing and/or strut failure at 50k ('95
Jetta GLX VR6)? With the hood up, I can actually see the
tops of my struts articulating up and down and from side to side when
I turn the steering wheel. Also, how do you know if its the strut or
just the bushing?
