I doubt cost is the motivation, or at least not the primary one.  Since
the engine and powertrain is covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles, they
wouldn't specify maintenance intervals that might damage the engine.
They may have found that more frequent changes are simply not necessary,
and don't help the engine life significantly.
