Autothority Chip (longish)

Hi GLX and GTI-VR6 owners,

I rarely post, since I'm relatively inexperienced in VW mods. But I
wanted to let y'all know that I just installed a chip in my '96 Jetta
GLX. I was invited to try out 2 different chips by VW Sport (the local
tuner in my area - Springfield VA). I tried the Neuspeed P-chip and the
Autothority chip.

I noticed a very small improvement over stock with the Neuspeed chip,
but a larger improvement with the Autothority chip. Apparantly,
Autothority just came out with the OBD-II VR6 chip. I noticed improved
mid- and high-rpm power and throttle response. And I was surprised to
hear a nice growl at high-rpm operation (like a P-flow equipped Jetta I
got a ride in that same day). OK, I didn't conduct a scientific
experiment or dyno the chips, but by the seat of my pants, I was pleased
with the Autothority

I just had to say that I was really impressed with the Autothority
chip. I don't know if any of you folks have used their chips before,
but I heard I was one of the first customers to receive the OBD-II VR6
chip. I just wanted to share with you my good experience.

I guess the downside is that they are pretty late to enter the market
(most of you seem to have snapped up the Neuspeed chips that have been
available for a year and a half) and they are more expensive. The
retail is a fairly high $275, but VW Sport said that they would be
discounting that. At the risk of sounding like an advertiser, VW
Sport's number is 703-451-5134. One of their project cars is featured
on pg 40 of the June EC. Great bunch of guys.

Anyway, I hope some of you will have an opportunity to try out the
Autothority chip and tell me if was right!
