You can't trade the draft picks straight up for players, because of the cap. Maybe we'll be enough under the cap to take on someone worth having if Vin comes completely off our books prior to the draft, but that's a big maybe that requires multiple things to happen (note: don't forget that a buyout doesn't remove him from the cap, simply changed the money involved). And we still have to get offered someone worth taking on whatever baggage comes with them, as there will almost certainly be.

More likely they get packaged with some of what we've got to sweeten the deal so we can acquire an incrementally better player than the one we're dealing.

And no, if Ainge tries to do that even then, it might be because he thinks its the smartest thing to do, but that doesn't actually make it  the smartest thing to do. I'll back most of his moves as making sense, but that's not the same as saying I think he's been faultless in what he's done.

If Ainge trades the draft picks for players, it will not be because of 
public pressure to win. It will be because he knows that it is the smartest 
thing to do. One thing Ainge does not do is bow to pressure and make moves 
solely based on that.
