RE: losing Blount

Lets not overrate Blount. He had one good game. Where was he all season.
Acie Earl scored 40 against us

Subject: losing Blount

Ain't Peter May something! The morning Globe shows his "gleeful" commentary
on a rather uppity Mark Blount and the probability that Blount will skip
come the July 15 trade date. Very interesting. Ainge is quoted as saying
he hopes Blount will stay--that he has a great opportunity here. I was glad
to see Ainge saying the right thing.

But, I'm interested in our options here. Do we leave him unprotected in the
expansion draft, which would be to lose him? Do we protect him, hope for a
sign and trade (if we don't choose to pay him), and thus leave Raef or Mihm
unprotected? Nice decision coming. I like Blount, but don't think he's
that special; he's a big body, improving his game, but there's a ceiling
there. To me, it boils down to how good Perkins is. Perkins and Mihm might
be all we need. Let next season be their time to emerge. With LaFrentz and
Hunter around them (plus a draft choice), we wouldn't be hurting for
rebounding.

Cheers, Gene
