Isiah Thomas will continue revamping the Knicks by naming Mike Fratello to
replace Don Chaney as head coach in a move that could be made following
Wednesday night's game against the Magic, the N.Y. Daily News reported on
its Web site Wednesday.

Thomas, the team's president, was not available for comment.
The newspaper, citing sources close to the situation, reported that if
Thomas makes the change, Fratello could coach his first game on Friday, when
the Knicks host Seattle.

The Knicks -- 14-23 as of Jan. 13 -- have struggled lately, losing five of
their last six games while fans at two of the team's most recent home games
have chanted for Chaney's firing.

Chaney, meanwhile, has described his working conditions as `horrible.' Aside
from the vociferous calls for his dismissal, Chaney has recently coached
practices with Thomas' intervention.

Fratello, who turns 57 next month, works for the Sunshine Network as a
broadcaster and was a Knicks assistant under Hubie Brown 20 seasons ago.
Fratello last coached the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 1998-99 season and
has 14 years of NBA head-coaching experience.

When he was contacted by The News in Sacramento, Calif., Fratello had no
comment.
