Exchanging Mike James and injured Chris Mills' $6.6M fast-fading contract for a meaningless No. 1 pick and Chucky Atkins, whose deal isn't up for two more guaranteed ($4.2M and $4.5M) years? Atkins may be an improvement over James, but not enough to take on two additional years salary.

Not to beat a dead horse, but a mid-20s pick is no longer "meaningless" -- is Vescey so stupid he can't see this? Per Sean G's post, you could make a pretty nice team out of just picks from the Detroit-Dallas range over the last 7 years:

1996: Derek Fisher & Jerome Williams (24, 26)
1997: Bobby Jackson
1998: Ricky Davis, Brian Skinner, Al Harrington
1999: Andrei Kirilenko, Kenny Thomas, Devean George
2000: Morris Peterson
2001: Tony Parker, Jamaal Tinsley, Samuel Dalembert, Raul Lopez
2002: Tayshaun Prince, John Salmons
2003: Josh Howard, L. Barbosa

PG: Tony Parker / Jamal Tinsley
SG: Bobby Jackson / Josh Howard / Morris Peterson
SF: Ricky Davis / Al Harrington / Tayshawn Prince
PF: A. Kirilenko / Kenny Thomas / Jerome Williams
C: Brian Skinner / Dalembert

OK that's stretching it since you wouldn't end up with those picks each time, but if you have good talent evaluators you can come away with good players -- that either develop or you can trade into better players (Kenny Thomas, Ricky Davis, Tinsley (for a #1) have all been traded).

No wonder why none of us lowbrows comprehend Ainge's master plan. If his demolition of a formidable team that came within two wins of reaching the Finals two playoffs ago was about creating evocative cap room and accumulating valuable draft picks, I'd be more than happy to give him the benefit of the doubt and room to work.

Ainge you're so stupid. Like Vescey says -- you should trade Eric Williams for Cleveland's #1 pick, McCarty for Orlando's #1 pick, Blount for 2 #1s. Who needs Detroit's pick -- the best we could end up with a lousy player like Okur or Tayshaun Prince.

(the other) mark -- who really needs to get back to work (thanks for all the great discussion lately listers!)
