Damn.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic signed veteran
point guard Rod Strickland on Tuesday.

Strickland has averaged 14.2 points and 7.7 assists in
his 15-year career. His 7,704 assists ranks sixth
all-time and first among active players.

"Rod brings us some valuable experience and fortifies
our backcourt," Magic general manager John Gabriel
said.

Playing for Minnesota last season, he averaged 6.8
points and 4.6 assists in 47 games.

The 37-year-old Strickland will be in uniform for the
Magic's home game against Boston on Wednesday night.

Orlando, which has lost 13 straight, is averaging 17
assists a game -- next-to-last in the NBA, ahead of
only Miami. Tracy McGrady leads the Magic with 5.6
assists a game while starting point guard Tyronn Lue
is averaging four.

>>>>> Strickland's best days are way behind him, but
he's forgotten more about playing point than Mike
James will ever know. At this point, he could've been
a fine mentor to Banks.
