jasikevicius

I've been trumpeting Jasikevicius for quite a while on this list as the PG
Danny Ainge should try to get . He'd be a perfect complement to Banks, as he's
big (6-4), has fine passing skills and a pass-first mentality, and is also a
very good shooter. He was the MVP of the European Championships in September,
beating out the likes of Parker, Nowitzki, Stojakovic and Gasol, and leading
the field in assists (8.3 in about 30 min. of action). But apparently, the
team with probably the best foreign scouting in the NBA - the Spurs - has
already attempted to get him for this season. Here's what Marc Stein says in
his column:

"Before they lost Tony Parker to an ankle injury last month, San Antonio tried
to convince Lithuania point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius to jump to the NBA.
Jasikevicius outdueled Parker at the European Championships, then followed the
semifinal victory over France by leading his country to an unexpected
championship triumph over Pau Gasol's Spain. It's the same Jasikevicius who
nearly shot Lithuania to a massive upset of the United States at the 2000
Olympics in Sydney, and the same Jasikevicius (as if there's another) who
played collegiately at Maryland. Instead of coming back to the States at 27,
Jasikevicius is serving a one-year contract with Israeli club power Maccabi
Tel-Aviv. Parker is back now for the Spurs, but with Anthony Carter ailing, his
backups are Jason Hart and Australia's Shane Heal."
