Re: Vescey: Wallace Safe

Boston's signing of Bimbo Coles gives the Celtics an excellent chance again of

he'd make the same choice. If the author cared the least little bit about the
aging Auerbach he would've pretended not to hear that remark. Got a call
yesterday from a concerned friend of Celt GM Chris Wallace who'd heard the new
owners were planning to buy him out of his remaining 3-year contract. Untrue.

How would Vescey know? Did Grousbeck call him to notify what he intends to do
with his GM's contract? Typical Vescey stuff - low information and high
viciousness content.

The Baker submission shows the owners are at least paying attention and have
chutzpah. If they are willing to pay more lux tax (however modest the amount)
to add bit players like Bimbo and Long, they won't hesitate to eat Wallace's
contract (which can't be that big) or Bakerize him somehow as soon as they find
an appropriate replacement. I don't get the impression that they're in the
Sterling/Gaston mode.
