Kestas and Mark, what

article on Toine's workout regiment was minutely
scrutinized by Kestas, among others, and rejected
out-of-hand as another example of Toine not getting it
(specifically the quote, from Antoine, that the Grover
workout regimen has improved his game the last two
years). My gut feeling is that it doesn't fit into
your matrix of things that you can use to further you
agenda of anti-Antoine-ness, but then again maybe
you've been busy or tired or more caught up in the
all-too-fun speculation of the draft. Whatever the
reason, I am interested to know why such a hot news
item has been passed over with indifference.
--- end of quote ---

The reasons are many:
1) Toine's idea of having Baker play PF may be the 6-8 minutes that are left
over from Toine. He never said that HE will play SF, only that Baker is better
suited to play PF than C.
2) what are the chances that Baker will come back and play significant minutes
for us? (close to zero)
3) what are the chances that Baker will come back at all? (not very high)
4) what are the chances that Walker will still be with the team come fall?
(good, but not nearly 100%)
5) what are the chances that, even if Walker DOES intend to give up his PF
spot and Baker DOES come back and DOES contribute, Obie will play Baker - at
any position? (not good). If there's one area where Obie retains some
independence from Toine, it's alotting playing time to other players. And Obie
obviously can't stand Baker as a player, and frankly, I can't blame him.
6) Even if all these things were to happen, having Baker and Walker at the PF
and SF slots would likely be a disaster. They're both fairly unathletic and
slow for their positions.

So, when you multiply all these probabilities together, the chances of seeing
Walker play SF AND Baker play PF for any significant amount of time are
exceedingly close to zero. In essence, Walker's statement is a non-issue and,
consequently, your e-mail is much ado about nothing.
