RE: [Celtics' Stuff ] Jones escapes purgatory: New Celt out of Cleveland

The Jumaine Jones trade was Jones and Ty Hill for Harpring, Ced
Henderson, Tractor. Apparently Larry Brown was after the more rugged SF
(Harpring), to mirror Mckie/Snow.

As for Jones's defense, I watched a tape of last years Celts/Cavs game
and he had a monster first half on D and O. Hustled the whole time, got
stops when assigned to Antoine and blocked a Pierce baseline dunk. He
forced JR into turnovers several times on some fullcourt pressing. So I
think his horrible defense could be a myth.

On offense he had 3 three-pointers (with Brown on him), in the first
half and a couple of assists. Gorman was impressed. But Jones isn't a
freak super athlete like Kedrick/RickyDavis. His athleticsm, bodytype
and game pretty much match McCarty.

Does anyone know what the Sixers traded
him for? For those of you who have been mentioning a new pressing unit
that
includes Jones, be forewarned that the Cleveland folks think he plays
horrible
defense. That could be why Larry Brown, a defensive, toughness oriented
coach,
traded him....
