Thanks, Egg. I went back and found it in the archives. Did everyone just
miss this?! Isn't this a pretty darn inflammatory post? And yet no replies?
Did I miss them?

I guess I was just increduluous that DA said that to someone he didn't know. If
he did, was it spontaneous? Calculated? Is he trying to put pressure on
ObieWalker through quips like that? He must know that whatever he says to a fan
will likely become public knowledge, no?
As to why he extended Obie's contract...was it the owners' wish? The likelihood
of player rebellion if Obie wasn't re-signed that Peter May alluded to a few
months ago? If it's the latter, who cares if Walker, EWill or Waltuh pout? DA
has made it clear with his actions that, as far as he's concerned, they're all
very expendable. The McCarty signing was obviously a bone to Obie, although,
again, I'm not sure why DA needs to appease Obie - isn't he Obie's boss?
Walker's trade value may be low now, but it will increase inversely with the
length of his remaining contract - regardless of his play. Same for EWill.
These days a fat expiring contract is worth more than any but the best players.
So, does anyone have any idea why DA is pleading and negotiating with, and
hoping to convince Obie? Does he believe that "if you can change, and I can
change", then maybe Obie (and Walker) can change? Does he not have the mandate
from the ownership to tell Obie to do what he's told or hit the road?
Lots of questions. I hope someone has some answers.
