Nope, although thanks for pushing me to actually check to clarify:
From an article by Shira at JR's own website http://www.jrbremer.com/Profile.htm which you have to assume he wouldn't quote if it wasn't true, aside from Shira's own reliability on that sort of fact:


... If he is still on the roster by mid-December he has a guaranteed contract for the 2002-03 season worth $349,458. If he makes the opening night roster next season, Bremer receives a guaranteed contract for the 2003-04 season worth $563,679.

Hence the phrase team option, although it may not be an official option in some sense and maybe that's why they didn't have to exercise it July 1. Regardless, it is the team's choice whether or not he is with them next season. He is not currently under a guaranteed contract, more a matter of committed to them until they choose before the season.
