LOL!

Focusing in the here and now, Kedrick's finally getting
actual playing time (like other 2nd-year draftees on much
crappier teams).

He finally got the start against Milwaukee last week, and
since then is shooting a respectable .474FG% to quietly
average 7.0 points and 6.3 boards.

Kedrick hasn't been killing the Celtics, either, with his
5 assists and 0 turnovers, along with 3 steals. He also
held Ray Allen scoreless in the 4Q of a big road win.

Maybe its not an ideal start. But let's focus on the now
rather than the past, in light of his injury setbacks,
experience and age.

To add to Bill Bird's point, even in the case that
Kedrick were to blow up for 30 points and 16 boards
tonight (I wish), there still might be some naysayer (I'm
not singling anyone out) posting a few days later about
how he's upped his average to just 3.9 ppg through these
20 games, compared to so-and-so draftpick who is already
averaging 10 ppg on some sub-.350 team.

Rehashing Kedrick's overall stats this way is not any
different than complaining that Bremer is "only"
averaging 4.3 ppg this season (the reality). A starting
point guard averaging 4.3 points! How can Boston win with
that?

Kedrick's week is hopefully something to build on...he's
got one big this address first.

The glaring negative stat for Kedrick has been from Bird
land (1-6) and freethrows (3-8). That's what is dragging
everyone's perception of him down.

But recall that JR Bremer was 2-19 on 3-pointers to start
his Celtics career.

Kedrick is certainly doing his best imitation with a 1-18
start since coming back from the injury.

Are the situations analagous? I hope so.

There's certainly a chance Kedrick will find his 3-pt and
FT shot. Recent anecdotal information and past stats
point to a likely turnaround.

I'm not sure he'll be a 3-point specialist within this
year. Have you guys recently compared a college three to
a pro three? That extra two feet make a big difference in
the shot mechanics, between a soft jumper and a heave. I
can't fathom how Tony Delk can maintain perfect shot
mechanics from 27-feet-out. Walker too.

But if Kedrick's really hitting the twine in practice as
reported, maybe it could come around a bit sooner. I
can't picture it yet.

Should this happens, let me tell you his trade value is
going to suddenly shoot through the roof. Opposing teams
are already watching this kid as we are, because even a
Michael Jordan couldn't have "stolen" that rebound the
way Kedrick did on Wednesday.

We've seen two guys leap for a rebound and then one guy
just keeps elevating. But this was something else. This
was a guy simply all alone with position going straight
up to get the ball. And then "poof" it vanishes above
him! The kid came over and just caught and lifted it
clean above the outstretched fingertips. No contact, not
even close. His back was turned to the camera angle but I
would have loved to see the expression on his face...or
on the faces of those on the opposing bench.
