RE: Shammond

I'd love to get Battier. The comparison to EW is very good although
Battier's shirt will become the #3 selling Celtic shirt because of his lunch
pail game. I think this kid just makes everyone around him a better player
and he's not afraid to fill a needed role. He would fit the chemistry of
the captains perfectly, IMO.

I like Shammond and think he is just in a slump right now but I don't think
he is back next year anyway.

Bremer's play has been wonderful and there may be a third PG that can be
brought in from the NBDL if needed for the playoffs.

If Wallace could pull this off I would take his picture off my dart
board.......

Get consideration. <Jim

On Battier, normally I'd agree Joe. But remember, he's not a Jerry West guy.
He was drafted the year before West joined the Grizz, so West has no loyalty
there. If dumping him to free up salary makes it look like the pick was a
mistake, then it looks like the previous GM's mistake. Battier may be
overreaching just a little, but you never know. He definitely was drafted
too high, but I think he'd be a great fit with the Celts.

The key is to identify teams either out of the playoff race (Miami, Memphis)
or in the race, but with expendable players (Indiana, maybe Seattle?), who
are looking to either create cap room or get out of the luxury tax before
next season. I'll try to poke around today and see if there are any good
matches.

Good thinking. I hope you and others throw more ideas out
there with likely suitors.

It may be too big a loss of face for Memphis to dump a
recent lotto pick and college POY that cheaply. They'd
probably seek a first rounder to go with Shammond (and
that might be asking too much).

But there are other guys who are further into their NBA
careers (the Walt Williams type guys, or whatever) who
could move under the radar without causing much local
outrage.

Besides, can Battier even shoot threes? ;-)

How about this one. Shammond Williams & co. for Rodney
Rogers! Jason Kidd's backup is still on the fat farm, and
Rogers has been a flop in the Nets system. Shammond shot
lights out against the Nets in the first meeting this
year. It would be like a "do over", under our new owners.
We take Rodney back and then he torches Dikembe in the
ECF!
