Re: [Celtics' Stuff ] Re: Danny's trades

But this is where Ainge totally screwed up. Your coach has to be on the same
page as the GM. You can't have the GM setting up the team to guarantee the
coach develops the young players.

Take the point guard position. Please!..... Old joke. Anyways. There is a
time during games where you would want to relieve James with a Mark Jackson
instead of putting the pressure on a rookie Banks (like last night with 6 minutes
left). In fact, Mark Jackson looks a lot better than James at any time.... I
digress. You would like to bring him on but you know that Obie will bury Banks.
Just can't have that. We are suffering losses because the GM and coach don't
have the same mindset. How about playing both James and Banks at the same time
during presses? Coaches do that often. However, Obie would never do that as he
seems to look for reasons to not play Banks.

Next, take J Jones. All the hoopla we heard about him being a starter and
somewhere in giving up a 29 point lead and loses 8 out of 10, you don't think the
coach would have thought about throwing Jones out there and seeing if he
could contribute. Obviously, he doesn't have the same plan as the GM.

Then you have the running game. That idea obviously has been tanked. I
believe it could be resurrected if Banks was given the green light to uptempo and
throw the ball in the stands a few times. I think the turnovers would be worth
effect it would have on the team on getting easier shots and creating tempo.
Even if the Cs don't join in, it still forces the other team to get back and
give up energy.

You know why Ainge did it, kind of like you know why we traded for Vitally.
It seemed the right thing to do at the time. We had been getting killed with
Travis Knight at center all year and needed some bulk in the middle. Immediate
help seemed to be required but long term, it wasn't the best move. Ainge didn't
want to cowboy up and rearrange the team on the first day, especially since
he would need Obie to manage Walker. But this wasn't the best move for the long
term. That has been Ainge's only mistake to date. Otherwise, he has always
looked long term. However, we will be paying for this mistake until Ainge cuts
his losses. We are fortunate that it isn't a talent loss and is just money....

If I was a cynical man like some on this list, I would say that Obie is
intentionally not putting forth the effort to set up this team so he can get fired,
get a break, spend some time with his family and still get paid....

<< Sure. Still love the Walker trade. The problem with the team isn't
the absence of Walker, since Baker has supplanted a large part of his
offense and at a more efficient production, but the absence of PGs.
That's Ainge's biggest mistake. Old Chinese Proverb: Running team
with crappy 1s brings much sadness.

As far as the Walker trade goes, Welsch has great promise.
The draft pick will get the Celtics a promising young PF like
Varejao (contract issues drop him down) or a
high-schooler like Al Jefferson. Then there's the Mid-Level
free agent signee complments of Chris Mills. Some good
international types such as Nocioni or Arvydas M. or Americans like
Barry or Richardson will be available. And LaFrentz won't
 have tendinitis forever.

Now as for the Jones deal. Jimbo won't use him. Is that Ainge's fault?
Perhaps it is, since with Jimbo, you have to basically force players
on to him. Ainge probably needs to deal Williams and McCarty, so
Jimbo has no alternative but to use Jones.
