Josh, Out To Lunch With His Latest Column

Josh exhibits his usual non-locality with his latest Celtics whine
session about
the Team in Green being devoid of coverage.

Ozersky needs to face the following facts to avoid a repeat of the same

faulty assumptions in the future:

1) The Celtics are the fourth most popuilar sports team in Boston.
Only the dreadful Revolution and whatever their name is Women's
Pro Soccer team keeps them from scraping the bottom of the Boston
Pro Sports barrel.

2) The Red Sox are involved in a heated Pennant Race. They are
a Black Hole for Sports' coverage in the Summertime and the fact that
they're challenging the Yankees at the moment, along with the usual
Pedro
Protestations and Crazed Machinations by other Sox players, means they
have the majority of Print and Media coverage devoted to them.

3) It's Patriots exhibition season, and after the Red Sox, they are the
second
most popular team in Boston Sports.

4) It's not as if the Celtics made any Earth-shattering moves over the
Summer that would elicit continued coverage. Yah, Banks might have an
effect
in time, but right now he's a rookie PG who can't shoot; Perkins is
years
away; Hunter needs depletions in the roster to see any playing time, and

Jumaine Jones and Mike James are a couple of low rent additions.

The simple truth and reality of the situation is there isn't a lot of
media interest
in the Celtics, because there isn't a lot of Boston fan interest in the
Celtics.
Their interest lies with the Red Sox and Patriots, and until Ainge makes
a
defining move or elevates the team into Championship Contention, that
interest
will continue to lag.
