If Gaston agreed to let the basketball braintrust build around Walker and Pierce's perceived strengths, then that is what I want an owner to do. I don't see where Gaston did the wrong thing when you look at the reality of the whole situation.
I just don't think these two guys are telling everyone/us how they are really trying to build this team. So yes I do think they are CYA.

I think the conservative, neutered Gaston had a say in all this, either naive
or calculated.
That said, don't forget that after lucking into their Pitino-gifted,
one-step-above-their-competence-level positions, that post-Pitino our
Three Stoogesb" actually had the audacity to subtly blame EVERY previous
move, including the drafting of Moiso, on Pitino.
Talk about covering ass.
