Rumors, speculation, and other affairs of the heart
< I'm starting to think that Belkin might have been very much involved
in this new group, but behind the scenes , so as not to spook Gaston.
Imho, Belkin and Bird join this group, if Larry is given a piece of the
deal, without putting any cash in. > -JBMetz
Right on, JB. Despite Bulpettbs bLarry doesn't fit in new owners' plansb
morning column, herebs my thinking.
In an elaborate chess game, both principal players - Gaston and Bird - have
emerged as winners. Bird is about to sneak in the front door with a fine
reputation but few risked $$$$, while Gaston escapes out the back door
with little reputation but a caravan of Brinkbs trucks bulging with $360
million.
Speculation is rampant that Gaston will now utilize his windfall in a
takeover
coup of Martha Stewart Living (MSO- NYSE) while Marthy is temporarily out of
commish in the federal prison facility nearest her. Excuse me while I run
off to decoupage my old shoe boxes with flowers cut out from old wrapping
paper. Thanks for the tip, Queen of Mean II.
Done. The shoe boxes look great so back to the Celts. Suspecting that
longtime Celtic aficionados and season ticket-holders Pagliuca and
Grousbeck (AKA venture capitalists) were the front men for Bird/Belkin,
the patient Gaston did what he could to SCEEEEERRRRRREW bEM by:
1) Rubber-stamping the future crippling debt of the Baker contract.
2) Enabling yes man Wallace to sign third-rate players named
Sundov, McCarty, Bremer, and Wolkowyski for less than $1 mill
each in lieu of more proven FAbs like Erick Strickland for $762,435
or Gary Trent for $824,935.
As our collective mouths hung open wondering why the above signings were
and were not executed, Gaston, the man who was so bitter over the miserable
monsters he had supported (fiscally irresponsible contracts to Rick, KA, EW,
VP,
the $12 mill state-of-the-art HealthPoint practice facility, the present
Three
Stooges, out-of-sync draft choices JJ, KB, and JF) remained closeted in his
private solarium in Greenwich, Ct. Calculator and Prozac in hand, he
questioned
if the time was N O W that he should sell his team at the height of its value
due to its shocking success last season.
No matter where Gaston sought guidance, all signs spelled N O W as our
stock market was hitting new four and six year lows and as our country
was falling deeper and deeper into recession partly due to the threat of the
estimated $200 billion GDubya/Condy Rice war against the very weapons of
mass destruction which Reagan and ThanksDad#1 (GWalkerB) had actually
armed Saddam with in the b80bs.
And, too, Gaston feared the NBAbs declining ticket sale revenues along with
the
three, count bem... three losses in the world games. He realized that the
God
who had made him rich could also make him poor if he didnbt act soon. He also
knew there was a hope for every woe and a balm for every pain. And suddenly
his sky was filled with big blue balloons. In 74-point Bodoni bold, they all
spelled bS E L L N O W F O R $360 M I L Lb.
FACT: Gaston would not sell the team to Larry and Belkin who had been
involved with a group trying to buy the Celtics before moving on and
attempting to establish a franchise in Charlotte.
FACT: After the Gaston sale was announced, Belkin stated that he wouldn't
rule out investing in the Celtics instead.
FACT: Belkin also stated "I wouldn't do anything without Larry."
FACT: The new owners with enough greenbacks behind them to swing the
deal on their own but with little Bball expertise, stated they are interested
in adding investors and would welcome Bird. Hmmmmm.
FACT: A tall figure wearing a #33 jersey and sweats was seen entering and
exiting Pagliucabs house three times in late August.
Yup, JB, it sure looks like webve crossed the Rubicon. My guess is that Bird
WILL BE returning to Boston.
Yippee!
