Antonio Daniels

ESPN's Insider says the Celts are among the teams bidding for the Spurs'
swing guard. I think it's just part of our continuing quest to run every
former top-10 pick in the 1997 draft through Boston. We've had Billups,
Mercer and Battie. If we can ever get Duncan or McGrady, I'll be excited.

As for Daniels, he's an athletic swing guard. He lost his starting job to
Tony Parker, a truer point guard. He's more of a point than Delk, but not
the shooter Delk is. I think he makes about $3.5 million in the upcoming
season, his last under contract. I'm guessing any trade would involve Delk.
I think the salaries are similar, and Delk would bring the Spurs the
shooting they're looking for. Parker clearly is their point guard of the
future, so it's not surprising that they'd shop Daniels.

Anyway, here's the blurb:

Spurs: Expect the team to sign Malik Rose to a seven-year, $42 million deal
as early as today. Interest in Antonio Daniels, for whom the Spurs continue
to entertain trade offers, has increased with Boston and Minnesota among a
number of teams that are interested the San Antonio Express News reported.

Also, Kim, I didn't mean to imply you were the one saying "Walker and Pierce
like it so it's OK..." You've made some great posts on this whole thing, and
I wouldn't discount anything you said so cavalierly. And you're right, I'm
no more an expert than Walker or Pierce. But Chris Wallace is supposed to
be.

Players have their own agendas. Shaq wanted Kobe traded at one point. Walker
wanted Nazr Mohammed instead of Paul Pierce. Michael Jordan pouted when he
didn't get Johnny Dawkins in the draft. Jordan and Pippen didn't want Toni
Kukoc. GMs have to consider much more than whether or not their star players
are in favor of a trade or a draft pick.

You know all this. My point all along was it will take a lot more than a
line-not even a quote-in a story saying Walker and Pierce reportedly were
consulted and were OK with the deal before I'll like it.
