Re: More hoopsworld
Dan:
Maybe the "Thanks Dad" phenomenon is our punishment for
the largesse of Red Sox ownership (without doubt the
Dallas Mavs of baseball). Nearly every other ML baseball
team, including ones with glorious histories recent and
past, are in exactly same offseason situation as the
Boston Celtics face today...forced against all reason to
lose core players and endure fan wrath to rivals like the
Red Sox who seem willing to carry payrolls easily twice
as large as teams with similar records.
I guess the difference is that the Celtics are profitable
and have made the Gastons tremendously rich without any
doubt. As for the Red Sox, yeah I know that Anaheim or
Oakland are in good position to breeze past us into the
playoffs. Its really a shame...all the injuries to date
(not that the Yanks ever use it as an excuse). This is as
talented a Redsox team, pitching and hitting, as Boston
has ever had in my lifetime. Arguably the best team in 50
years. But until they prove otherwise this year, they
really do suck compared to the Yanks. Its ignorant to
even call them "rivals", based on each team's histories.
What a crummy weekend for our team...."Trot" Buckner etc.
