Re: [Celtics' Stuff Songalia scores 19; C's roll Spurs

Forming opinions from a box score, can be dangerous, doing so,
from a summer league box may be get me incarcerated, but I just can't
stop. Lets say, "the Devil made me do it."
Omar is cooked. A DNP, after they signed him a month before the
season ended? I can't believe it's his play they don't like. He played
only one game, for heaven's sake.
Last week I wrote about the tendency of certain coaches, to have
very little patience with young players who have lots of attitude, but
not the game to back it up. Well, I would bet this is such a case. DNP?
Are you serious? The kid you called a lottery pick substitute, only a
few weeks ago? As a few more reasonable observers than I had written,
there must have been a reason that Omar went from camp to camp last
season, without being signed and that reason has to be something other
than his skill level.
It's being thrown around the boards that Jimmy O'Brien is
anti-point guard. I don't buy it. he played Kenny Anderson to death last
season, because when one of his; converted, spot up shooters, to play
makers, was on the floor, the offense went to sleep. Jimmy saw it. He
played point guard all his life. He watched Jason Kidd dismantle Dick
Harter's award winning defense.
We signed Cook, didn't we? they knoew he was a point guard, with
shhoting deficiencies, didn't they? No, I don't believe there is any
endemic prejudice, I think it's just a matter of wanting a point guard
with some size, who can defend and hit the open jumper and having to
compromise, on finding players with all of those skills. Since Tyus
Edney was released, we must have gone through 20 or so point guards,
none of which could take minutes from Anderson, when healthy.
The back up tandem of Forte and Bremer has really clicked at
Shaw's. Here's hoping that O'Bie lets them work together during training
camp, to see what they can do against the better competition. Joe Forte,
unpack your bags. even Larry, Curley and Moe wouldn't dare trade this
kid, as cap fodder, now. Tony Delk, do you have any frequent flier miles?
Darius, what a nice showing. I know; big man production at Shaw's
means little, but I'll put another wager that Songaila just won a roster
spot with the 6-6, 7 rebound effort.
Oliver Miller should also be kept around. He can flat out play, at
any weight. He is what he is, which is a lot better than what is on
many team's benches.
Did you see the shooting %.: over 60%. One thing about summer
league, they usually play pretty tight "D" and the ref's don't like to
call many fouls, so this is an exciting phenomena. I also noticed, we
only shot 5 threes. Perhaps O'Brien is not so one dimensional, as some
have been saying.
