Re: The Boston Celtics Mailing List Digest V9 #203

josh,

i couldn't agree more on your assessment of forte. he
is not --and never will be --a point guard, but he is
a born scorer, which means he can be a great addition
off the bench.

let's give him a chance. if he can develop into a
combo guard, great. otherwise, let's see what he has
as a scoring guard.

don't give up on him. he was a freshman stud at NC, so
you know there's some talent there.

put me down as someone who believes forte is a player.

Gene writes of Joe's best chance, but I don't think
he necessarily will get a chance. The guy is a
shooting guard. He should get a look as a shooting
guard.
You can't make him into something he's not...why not
see if he can flat-out score against NBA competition?
If he can, he's well worth having on the bench, even
if
he does get abused on the other end. The league is
full of guys who are scoring specialists who
contribute
even if they get overpowered by bigger players. We're
not talking about starting him, after all...the guy is
a
scorer. Let him score. I hate this locked-in
mentality
of making guys play positions based on their height.
He is 6'4" after all.
